The Oculists is an Independent Optometry practice located in the heart of Bundaberg.
Our optometrists Stephen and Jen have a combined experience of over 30 years and have taken the best of their experience to create the practice you see today.
Our Story
Since graduating from university, we have travelled and worked across Australia and New Zealand. In 2017, we took a leap of faith and moved to Bundaberg, a town we had never visited before. We were instantly captivated by the stunning coast, the relaxed lifestyle, and the wonderful people. For the past seven years, we have proudly served the Wide Bay community, a place we now call home.
The shortage of eye care in regional Australia is more pressing than ever. With this in mind, we decided to take one more significant leap – to establish a practice we can truly call our own. From state-of-the-art equipment to our hand selected frames, everything is done with our patients in mind. It is our intention that your visit is as relaxing as the idyllic beaches that surround our region.

Meet the Team
Stephen Everard
B.Optom (Hons) Therapeutically qualified
Since moving to Bundaberg 7 years ago, Stephen has become a friendly, well-known trusted face around the Wide Bay community.
Stephen has always been interested knowing how the eyes work. Having worn glasses since he was 4 years old, Stephen relates with the struggles of needing glasses and contact lenses.

Beyond providing eye care, his favourite part of his job is hearing the stories, joys and struggles of his patients' lives. In his spare time, Stephen enjoys running and woodworking. On weekends you'll find him building little projects in the workshop with his son.
Jennifer Chi
B.Optom (Hons) Therapeutically qualified
Jen loves travelling and prior to moving to Bundaberg, enjoyed working as a locum around regional Australia. For the past 7 years, she has worked with a local ophthalmologist co-managing conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, cataract and dry eye. Beyond her clinical expertise, she forms genuine connections with her patients and their family.
Outside of optometry, Jen enjoys spending time at the beach with her young family. She loves painting and photography. While her two young kids keep her busy, she finds joy in creating art with them and exploring bright colours through their imaginative eyes.
